The network path was not found

The following Windows 7 error kept me from accessing shares on the network.

The network path was not found

Before I started:

  • I left the homegroup I was in

My solution (applies to both computers on the network):

  • Enable the Windows Firewall service (the firewall itself doesn’t have to be on.)
  • Start the Homegroup Listener service if it was off. (Note: Homegroup Listener fails to start if the Windows Firewall service is not running and gives the following error: The HomeGroup Listener service terminated with service-specific error %%-2147023143.)
  • If the Homegroup Listener service was already on, do the safe thing and restart the computer. (I did.)
  • Join the homegroup after rebooting. I still received the initial error message on the windows share, not until I joined the homegroup did it actually start working.

Hope that solved the problem for you.
